Picture This, another way

I hope my blog post title didn’t confuse you. Stampin’Up! has a die set in the current annual catalog, called Picture This, that die cuts several rectangles or circles from a layering panel. The idea is that you can stamp different images that can be viewed through the openings you die cut in the panel. However, I didn’t want to stamp images to be seen through the openings, rather I wanted to make two cards at once by using the die cuts differently.

Since I don’t own this die set, I found a way to achieve the same look by using individual dies. In this case, we used three of the dies from the stitched rectangle die set. This card is CASE’d from Lynn Dunn, and you can see her video here. At around eight minutes into the video you can see the cards that I copied, using slightly different materials and patterned paper.

The trick is to die cut both the same size white card panel and patterned paper panel together. Then, assemble the patterned paper die cuts into the white panel and vice versa. Otters were colored with markers and SU blends. To achieve a bit more dimension on the card below, the die cut rectangles are popped up.

So, the bottom line is that even though I didn’t have the Picture This die set, I was still able to create this card, using individual dies, and use them in a different way than Picture This.

My apologies for the messy samples. I must remember to take my photos before the classes.
